The Advent Wreath has three purple candles, a pink one and a white one.
The first candle is the candle of "Hope". Prayers on this day remember the patriarchs such as Abraham and David.
The second candle is the candle of "God's Peace" and reminds Christians of the Prophets who foretold that the Messiah would be born.
The third candle, the pink one, is the candle of "Love" and reminds us of John the Baptist, who baptised Jesus.
The fourth candle symbolises "Joy" and we remember that Mary was Joyful when the Angel Gabriel told her she was to have a special baby.
The fifth candle, the white one in the centre, reminds us that Jesus was born on Christmas Day !
